How to fix \WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM file is missing or corrupt error?

The error "\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM file is missing or corrupt" occurs when the windows registry is corrupt or some files are missing. To find the fix to the problem follow the below process, you can also replace all the registry hives to prevent such windows system32 config system file is missing or corrupt situation in the future.

STEP 1: Insert windows XP CD in the CD-ROM and then boot from the CD.

STEP 2: Press ‘R’ to begin the repair process when prompted
STEP 3: Press 1 or any other number prompted on the screen when asked, to begin the repairing  of the windows installed. This can help you in correcting the "windows system32 config system fiile is missing or corrupt" error.

STEP 4: When asked enter the admin username and the password.

STEP 5: After that, type in cd \windows\system32\config in the window which opens up and press enter.

STEP 6: Type the commands "ren software software.bad" or "ren system system.bad" followed by "copy \windows\repair\system" & "copy \windows\repair\software" and press enter.

The above commands should have resolved the \WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM file is missing or  corrupt error. Now, exit from all your windows
