How do I remove “Access Denied” folder error message?
You might not be able to access a folder at a certain point of time and will be getting an error message “Access Denied”. This error might be due to administrative purposes or may be due to some virus. Its important to remove access denied folder because otherwise the user cant remove important data present in the folder. A user becomes quite frustrated when he sees the message “cannot delete file access denied”.
To resolve this access denied issue, you must turn off Simple File Sharing, and then take ownership of the folder:
Follow the given steps to resolve the cannot delete access denied:
STEP 1: Turn off Simple File Sharing:
- Click on Start button, and then click on My Computer.
- On the Tools menu (appearing at the top on the window), click Folder Options, and then click the View tab.
- Under Advanced Settings, uncheck the simple file sharing (Recommended) check box, and then click OK.
STEP 2: Right click on the destination folder & select Properties.
STEP 3: Under the Properties tab, and click on Security Tab.
STEP 4:After this click on the "Advanced" tab and then select “Owner” tab.
STEP 5: When the “Name” list appears click on the “name” by which you are logged in. To take ownership of content of the folder, click the check box“Replace owner on sub containers and objects”
STEP 6: Click OK.
You may receive the following error message, where Destination is the name of the folder that you want to take ownership of:
You do not have permission to read the contents of directory Destination. Do you want to replace the directory permissions with permissions granting you Full Control? All permissions will be replaced if you press Yes.
STEP 7: Click Yes.
STEP 8: Click OK to apply these settings for changing the condition of registry access denied, and then reset the folder security settings according to your preference. Most of the times, privatizing the folder helps the users in maintaining their security. If the folders are denied control, then tough to delete them. After following all these instructions to remove the situation of folder access denied, you are the sole owner of the folder.
