How to fix the corrupted index catalog in Microsoft operating system?

The Indexing services option is present in many windows software. It was introduced initially in Windows 2000 and then continues in all the Windows NT based operating systems. This service helps people in locating their files on all the hard drives of the PC. One can also regulate or modify the data stored in this part as it influences the performance of the computer. But sometimes, when you open the Indexing options applet, modify, advanced and the pause buttons in your system, they remain grayed out. Moreover, in some cases the Indexing Options represent the waiting message to accept indexing status, even though the Windows Search service is already running.

It usually happens, due to corrupted index catalog. This problem can be resolved using the below mentioned steps:

Step 1:Login as an Administrator in your windows and then click on “Start” and then “Run”
Step 2: Type "regedit" in Run box and press enter key

Step 3: Registry Editor dialog box will be opened. Now you are required to access the following branch:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SOFTWARE \ Microsoft \ Windows Search

Step 3: Click on the option “Setup Completed successfully” in the Right Pane and make zero as the data for its value.

Step 4: Now you can leave the option of Registry Editor. Start Windows again.

As soon as you restart, the scratch will automatically rebuild the ruined index catalog. But this process requires much time for completion.
